I like to watch my darling as she sleeps
And wonder what goes on inside her dreams
What heartless and demented specter creeps
That makes her whine and whimper, so it seems

If I could, I would mount a valiant steed
And thunder ‘cross the valleys of her mind
I’d draw my sword and make the wretch take heed
And any other villain I might find

I’d travel to the dungeon where she’s hid
To rescue and avenge my damsel-fair
I’d make him pay for the wrong he did
And leave him decimated in his lair

I’d then approach my princess in repose
And rouse her with a tender lover’s kiss
She’d revel at my presence, I suppose
For rescuing her from her dark abyss

A would-be hero is all I’ll ever be
A knight in shining armor lost on stormy seas

I’d hoist her on my steed, valiant and true
And guide her arms to clasp around my waist
We’d ride until the morning sun bursts through
the clouds upon our kingdom, wee and chaste

We’d rule her world of dreams, our woes we’d shed
And banish every enemy of light
‘Til then I’m relegated to my bed
To watch her toss and turn throughout the night

A would-be hero is all I’ll ever be
A knight in shining armor lost on stormy seas
Tossed upon the shoreline waiting for the day
That I can be your hero, carry you away

A would-be hero is all I’ll ever be
A knight in shining armor lost on stormy seas
Tossed upon the shoreline waiting for the day
That I can be your hero, carry you away
